The next feature in AZERTAC’s “If I Were a Tourist” column turns the spotlight on the House Museum of Uzeyir Hajibeyli.
The House Museum of Uzeyir Hajibeyli is located at 67/69 Shamil Azizbayov Street.
The house museum of the great composer, founder of Azerbaijani professional music, prominent public figure, and publicist Uzeyir Hajibeyli opened on November 20, 1975. The museum was established in the house where Uzeyir Hajibeyli lived from 1915 to 1942 and has preserved the rich legacy of the outstanding artist for more than 50 years, passing it on to future generations.
The museum building consists of a corridor, four rooms, and a veranda. This house occupies a special place in Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s creative history. It was here that the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, famous romances such as “Sensiz” and “Sevgili Janan,” as well as monumental works including the opera “Koroghlu,” considered the pinnacle of Azerbaijani opera, were composed.
The museum’s exposition includes the composer’s personal belongings, manuscripts, musical notes, photographs, and valuable archival materials. These exhibits allow visitors to gain insight into both Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s creative path and the socio-cultural environment of the period.
Over the years, the museum has attracted renowned composers, scholars, and public figures, becoming an important cultural landmark for both local and international visitors.
Today, the Uzeyir Hajibeyli House Museum continues to serve as a historical memorial and a source of inspiration for music enthusiasts.
